Ten years ago, most international fans would have struggled to name 2 players from the Ivory Coast. Such has been the emergence of this new African power that practically every name on their team sheet today is a household name. Playing in only their second World Cup, Côte d'Ivoire will be wondering what they have done to upset the footballing Gods who have placed them once again in the World Cup's Group of Death.

Les Éléphants were dominant in their Qualifying campaign, comfortably topping their Group with 5 wins and a draw. A 3-2 away win at the Stade du 4-Aout against Burkino Faso in June 2009 all but guaranteeing them a second crack at the World Cup Finals.
Led by Chelsea powerhouse Didier Drogba, Côte d'Ivoire have a second wildcard in their pack with the recent appointment of Sven Goran-Eriksson as their new head coach.
Côte d'Ivoire opening clash against Portugal could well decide their fate, while playing their final Group match against North Korea may prove to be crucial as well, should they need to produce a big win in order to seal entry into the Round of 16.
