On its 48th halt, the Queen's Baton Relay 2010 Delhi reached the lovely island of Bermuda. On its arrival , Johnny Barnes, ‘Bermuda's happiest man' greeted the Baton with love and respect. Bermuda, officially known as the Bermuda Islands or the Somers Isles, is a British Overseas territory in the North Atlantic Ocean. It is the oldest and most populous remaining British overseas territory, settled by England a century before the Acts of Union created the Kingdom of Great Britain.
The Baton on arrival, first visited the Governor's house for an official handover to the Deputy Governor, Hon. David B. Arkley. Post the handover the Baton headed for its relay and was received by Barnes. This was followed by a visit of the Baton to the Horseshoe Bay Beach, one of Bermuda's most popular hangouts. Gymnasts Caitlyn Meloo and Kaisey Griffith, participants of the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games performed at the beach on the Baton's arrival. The Baton then visited the world's smallest drawbridge connecting the main Bermuda Islands to the Somerset Islands.
The Baton next visited a few schools where it was received with a performance from a school band. The Baton also visited the world's oldest cast iron lighthouse known as the Gibb's Hill Lighthouse in Bermuda. Aspiring athletes from various sports then relayed the baton across the island followed by a relay from cyclists belonging to the Bermuda Cyclist Association. The day came to an end with the President's dinner reception at the New Stead Belmont Hills. The Minister of Environment and Sport also attended the reception.
