India finish medal-less at Invitational Lawn Bowls Event

lawn_bowls_mens_singles.jpgThe five day long Eight Nation Invitational Lawn Bowls Event which was played at the state-of-art Jawaharlal Nehru stadium ended with a gala ceremony today. After a promising run in the preliminary rounds, the Indian women had a disappointing final day, finishing medal-less. The Indian mens team, very new to the sport of Lawn Bowls did not make the final day, not finishing in the top 4 of their three events.

The England and Malaysian teams finished at the top of the medal's tally with 2 Golds and 1 Bronze medal each. They were followed by New Zealand at third spot with 1 Gold, 2 Silver and a bronze medal. Team South Africa were fourth with a solitary Gold medal in their kitty. The Indian women's team lost their bronze medal matches against Scotland and Malaysia in Pairs and Triples respectively thereby finishing in 4th place in both the categories. The Indian women trio of Tania Choudhury, Pinki and Rupa Rani Tirkey lost to Malaysia's Emma Firyana bt Saroji, Nur Fidrah bt Noh, Azlina bt Arshad by 11-3, 11-0. In the Women's Pairs India's Manisha Kumari, Arzoo Rani lost to Scotland's Caroline Brown, Margaret Letam 7-7, 11-6.

SILVER - Ali Forsyth, New Zealand
BRONZE - Paul Foster, Scotland
4th PLACE - Gary Kelly, Northern Ireland

WOMEN'S SINGLES

GOLD - Siti Zalina binti Ahmad, Malaysia
SILVER - Kelsey Cottrell, Australia
BRONZE - Val Smith, New Zealand
4th PLACE - Helen Grundlingh
