The students of Belize today celebrated the spirit of Commonwealth Games in a unique way. 71 school students relayed across Belize alongwith the Batonbearers holding a placard displaying the names of all the 71 participating nations of the XIX Commonwealth Games. The idea was to spread the message of Queen's Baton 2010 Delhi in a simple way.
The Baton, which is currently on its 47th halt at Belize, is spreading the message of peace, harmony and brotherhood through sports. The students were successful in sending the right message of ‘unity and universal friendship' through sports.
The students accompanied by enthusiastic Batonbeares relayed the baton to one of the oldest building in Belize - the residence of the Governor and superintendent of Belize. A reception celebrating the stay of the Queen's Baton 2010 Delhi was organised at the Governor's residence also known as the House of Culture.
Eminent political personnel were present at the reception. Some of the important names present were Zenida Moya Flowers, the Mayor and Hon. Mr. Elvin Penner, Minister of Sports, Belize.
The President of Belize Olympic Association, Mr. Edward "Ned" Pitts expressed his happiness on the Baton's visit to his country. He also wished the Queen's Baton good luck for the rest of the journey.
Belize is culturally unique among Central American nations. It is the only nation in Central America with a British colonial heritage, and is the only constituent country of the Commonwealth of Nations in its region. Culturally, Belize has ties to both Latin America and the Caribbean but considers itself Central America.
