The Queen's Baton relay Commonwealth Games 2010 Delhi created history by landing on Mt Usborne, the highest peak in the Falklands Islands. It took this journey in the world famous search and rescue helicopter "Sea King". The Melbourne 2006 Baton had not managed to reach the peak on account of bad weather. The local people of Falkland Island said that this a good omen for the games.
Earlier, the Queen's Baton had got a warm welcome from the armed forces. Twelve different regiments from the Army, Navy and Air Force ran the relay with the Baton covering a staggering distance of 8 km from the harbour to Mount Pleasant Airbase in no time at all.
From Mt Usborne the Baton then made its way to the remote settlement of Goose Green farm in the RAF Sea King escorted by a Royal Navy Lynx helicopter. The entire community of 70 people was there to greet the Baton. The famous Goose Green farm is a massive 430,000 acres territory which saw the famous Battle of Goose Green. The Queen's Baton made its way to the shearing shed from where the local horseman took the baton and handed over to 2 children on a quad bike. From the Goose Green farm the Baton traveled overland for another 100km through many farms, mountain ranges, across harsh, rugged and varied terrain on its way back to Stanley. Many Batonbearers took part in the relay.
