Sania Mirza's aspirations of making up for the disappointment of not being able to compete in the mixed doubles at the Australian Open met with an early demise. The 10th seeded pairing of Mirza and Virginia Rauno Pascual of Spain crashed out of the women's doubles in the third round at the hands of 7th seeds Alisa Kleyabnova and Francesca Schiavone in straight sets 6-4, 6-3.

Mirza thus ends her tryst with the 2010 edition of the year's first Grand Slam having already been beaten in the first round of the women's singles.

There were also two young Indians in action as Juniors Singles events kicked off at the Open today. Rishika Sunkara, playing in the Girls event advanced to the second round with a solid 6-4, 6-2 win over Miyu Kato of Japan. She has a tough second round in prospect against 3rd seed Daria Gavrilova of Russia.

Over in the Boys' Singles young Vaidik Munshak was not quite as fortunate, going down in straight sets to 13th seed Arthur de Greef 6-4, 7-6 (5).

Leander Paes will continue to keep the Indian flag flying high as the Australian Open enters its second week. Paes is in action in the men's doubles on Monday morning alongside long-time partner Lukas Dlouhy. The Indo - Czech pair take on the huge serving all-American team of John Isner and Sam Querrey. Leander then returns to the court to team up with Cara Black a few hours later in the mixed doubles. Black and Paes have a considerably easier second round clash against Akgul Amanmuradova and Rik De Voest.
