CWG 2010 Update: Cameroon rolls out the red carpet for Queen's Baton

qbr_day55_cameroon.jpgCameroon took its celebrations of the arrival of the Queen's Baton 2010 Delhi to the people during a long function on the iconic 20 May Boulevard on Tuesday, getting sports persons, officials and cultural groups to take part in the relay. The 20 May Boulevard is the site for the all National level events - especially the National Day parade.

National long distance runner Nyagme was the first Batonbearer and he was joined by young children of Indian origin, holding Indian flags. Thereafter, the baton was carried by many sportspersons, including National 42km and 21km roller skating champion Frujenes, Water Tangie and artistic roller champion JulesNgede, before it reached the ceremonial area at th e Yaounde City Council ground.

Minister of Sports and Physical Education Mr. Micheal Zoa, was present along with officials and cultural groups from different communities. He formally welcomed the baton to Cameroon and thanked the Organising Committee Commonwealth Games 2010 Delhi for taking the relay to his country. A cultural presentation by various ethnic groups showcased Cameroon's multi-cultural tradition.

Later, the baton visited to the officer of the Cameroon Commonwealth Games Council where its President Col Hamad Kalkaba Malboum made a short presentation. It was then the turn of the Minister delegate for Commonwealth Mr. Dion Ngute to host the baton in his office.

At a dinner organised by Cameroon Commonwealth Games Council Minister for Youth Mr. Adoum Garoua, Mr Dion Ngute, Deputy High Commissioner of Britain to Cameroon Mr. Timothy Fisher and Consul General of India in Cameroon Mr J Ravi Kumar.
