The Queen's Baton 2010 Delhi arrived in Cameroon on Monday and was treated to a spectacular three-hour drive through verdant forests between the nation's largest city, Douala, and the Capital in a cavalcade led by a police outrider throughout the 240km trip.
Cameroon Commonwealth Games Council President Mr. Hamad Kalkaba Malboum and his colleagues received the baton in the CCGC office on arrival. Commonwealth Games Federation Vice President (African region) Mr Abdoulie M Touray handed it over formally in the presence of a number of media persons.
Earlier, in the western port city of Douala, Governor of Littoral Region Mr Fai Yengo Francis, Cameroon Commonwealth Games Council Vice Preside nt Mr Tening Mongwa and Consul General of India in Cameroon Mr J Ravi Kumar received the baton on arrival from Nigeria.
Mr. Francis said he was happy to welcome it to the land of the sportsmen. Home to the Indomitable Lions - as the Cameroon football team is known around the world - Cameroon has won nine gold, five silver and seven bronze medals in the last three editions of th Commonwealth Games.
Earlier, in Lagos, Nigerian Commonwealth Games Council Secretary General Mr Olabanji Oladapo and other members saw off the baton as it left for Cameroon. The baton, which has now completed a 20,799km journey as part of its international travel of 170,000km, will feature in a community relay on Tuesday.
