CWG Delhi 2010: Queen's Baton bids farewell to Gambia, Next stop Ghana

qbr_gambia_day47.jpgThe Queen's Baton 2010 Delhi's mission of touching lives continued as thousands of school children took part in an amazing relay through the day on Tuesday, with the Gambia's Finance, Education and Sports ministers leading the way, causing those who have watched earlier relays to comment that such crowds in far off lands .

Setting from the office of Gambian Commonwealth Games Association, the baton was taken by the CGA officials to the Ministry of Youth and Sports. Minister for Youth and Sports Mr Sheirif Gomez, Minister of Finance Mr Abdou Colley and Honorary Consul of India Mr Ram Mohan received the baton.

The three dignitaries carried the Queen's Baton 2010 Delhi to Minister for Education Mrs Fatou Faye. She ran with the baton to Albion Lower Basic School where she handed it over to the Principal to set off a relay connecting nearly 100 schools. The baton's school visits through the lanes of Banjul was memorable.

At Marina Junior and High school, children of various nationalities stood together and cheered the baton to showcase an example of multi-ethnicity and harmony. The schools were not closed and the children ran together in groups behind the Baton for pre-designated stretch and then returned to class.

Some of the children expressed a desire to excel in sports so that they can be feature in Commonwealth Games opening ceremonies in future. After visiting the schools, the baton headed to the Banjul Airport where

Indian Counsel Mr Arun Kumar Jain and Mr Ram Mohan as well as officials of Gambian Commonwealth Games Association bid it farewell as it headed to Ghana after four wonderful days in the Gambia.
