The Queen's Baton 2010 Delhi completed its European tour on Monday with a string of visits to Maltese schools that marked 300 days to go for the XIX Commonwealth Games in Delhi with stirring relays. It then got ready for a 11,901km trip via London to Freetown in Sierra Leone to start its African safari.
At Sacred Heart School in the northeastern coastal town of Sliema, a brief relay was organised with students who had completed projects on the Commonwealth Games and the baton. The baton next visited Gzira Primary and Secondary School where the Delhi 2010 logo had been painted as a permanent feature on the football ground.
The baton visited Sliema seafront where children from Sliema Primary, Sliema JL, St Julian's Primary, St Patricks, Gzira Secondary, MCAST and Maltese athletes participated in a relay. The baton then visited Pembroke Primary School where students stood in formations that read 300 days to go and India.
At Pembroke Junior Lyceum, elite athletes ran with the baton and students formed the Maltese Commonwealth Games logo. The baton was accompanied to all schools by Maltese athletes who hope to compete in Delhi including William Chetcuti, Chris Behgedahl, Kim Cassar, Steve Camilleri, Alessandra Pace, Andy Grech, Mario Bonello, Marcon Bezzina and Tiziana Apap.
