Following the highs of her win at the ITF Lexington Final (read more), Sania had a bit of a dull week at the Bank of the West Classic at Stanford. Playing in just t he doubles, she was forced to withdraw from the event without hitting a shot in anger after her doubles partner Meghann Shaughnessy injured her right hip during her first round singles defeat.

Next stop on her North American summer tour for Sania is the Oldum Brown Vancouver Open, a $75,000 ITF Challenger, which is again a mixed event simultaneously featuring players from both the ATP and WTA Tours.

Mirza is the top seed at the event and will open her campaign on Wednesday. Some of the other challengers for the crown include second seeded Frenchwoman Severine Bremond Beltrame, local favourite Stephanie Dubois (seeded third), former two time finalist Laura Granville (2002 and 04) and the world's top ranked junior Noppawan Lertcheewakarn of Thailand.

There is a strong Canadian contingent at the event, apart from Dubois, Valérie Tétreault, Sharon Fichman, Heidi El Tabakh, Rebecca Marino, Marie-Éve Pelletier and Katarena Paliivets will also be participating in their home tournament.

Some former champions at the Vancouver Open include Maria Sharapova (at the amazingly young age of 15), Nicole Vadisova and Marion Bartoli.

The men's event has a pretty impressive draw as well, and is headlined by former Australian Open finalist Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus and American Taylor Dent.
