After being linked to a host of strikers including Villa, Benzema, Fabiano and Gignac, the Red Devils are suddenly being linked to crocked striker Michael Owen available on free transfer.

Apparently all that is standing in the way of the Liverpool icon and United is a medical with Owen reportedl y earning £50,000 per week in wages.

The former England international has had a hard time staying healthy playing just 76 games in the last 4 seasons. Two weeks after joining Newcastle, Owen collided with Paul Robinson at White Hart Lane leaving him with a metatarsal injury and that broken foot ruled him out until the final game of his first season.

In the 2006 World Cup yet another injury hit causing damage to the anterior cruciate ligament of his knee. Hernia problems ruled him out of action for three months ahead of the 2007-08 season.

Doubts surfaced over Owen's future following the departure of manager Kevin Keegan in August 2008 and with uncertainty over the long-term ownership of Newcastle, Owen decided to test the transfer market. Newcastle's relegation from the premiership merely solidified the decision as it made the former England goal-machine available on a free transfer to anyone willing to take a chance on one of the most injury-prone players in the Premiership.

It was reported that several clubs were sent a brochure detailing Owen's exploits, skills and intangables. Everton seemed to be leading the pack for his signature but the former Newcastle striker would certainly relish a move to Premiership champions Manchester United instead.
