While the men struggle in the warm sunshine in the West Indies, the England women's cricket team is basking in the glare of the spotlight as British designer Paul Costelloe, who will open London Fashion week on February 20 has designed new formal wear for the England Women's Cricket team as they embark on their busiest year yet.
England head to Australia on February 19 for the ICC Women's World Cup which runs from March 7-22 in New South Wales. In June they play in the ICC Women's World Twenty20 in England, swiftly followed by the npower Women's Ashes in July.
The new suits are inspired by ‘Chariots of Fire', infusing classic English style with chic contemporary cuts using materials such as fi ne wool crepe and cotton.
England captain Charlotte Edwards commented: "We're really privileged that all our formal wear is designed and supplied by Paul Costelloe. He's a fabulous designer and all the clothes are so lovely and fit us all perfectly.
"He's been really supportive of the team since last year and is always keen to know how we're getting on. The World Cup will be a great stage to showcase our new outfits and we can't wait for it all to get started."
Paul Costelloe added: "It's been a pleasure working with these very talented and beautiful ladies again; they certainly cut a finer silhouette than Kevin Pieterson and the rest of the men's team! We can look forward to a very promising season and I wish them every success in Australia."
The England Women's Team has been on a high, and were recently awarded the Team of the Year at The Sunday Times Sportswomen of the Year Awards for the second time in four years. One of their top performers has been Claire Taylor, who also currently tops the ICC women's batting ranking. England retained the Ashes in Australia in February and then beat New Zealand, West Indies, South Africa and India in one-day series over the course of last year. They are currently on a run of 14 one-day international matches unbeaten.
