james_huckle.jpg18 year old James Huckle from Harlow, England is an ace shooter who considers Rifle Shooting to be challenging and fun! He started training at the age of 15 and trains for a marathon 6 hours a day on an average. This training certainly paid off at the Commonwealth Youth Games where James bagged three Golds.

At the national level James has participated in the British Championships (Senior) where he came first in the Air Rifle and small-bore events. His preparation for the Youth Games was no different from his usual preparation, of which he says the mental side is a very important part as is the physical. He goes to the gym 4 times a week. James doesn't follow a specific diet plan - just believes in eating 'healthily'. The venue is unli kely to affect performance he feels since every shooting range is built to a specific standard.

When we at TheSportsCampus.com asked him about his expectations from the event, this is what James had to say, "3 medals in the events I participated in - it was a realistic target but at the same time I knew I'd have to shoot really well. After I won the first Gold medal I knew it was achievable but I've had to work really hard to get there. You always hope that you can do everything well, cope with the pressure and shoot well but it's always a bit of a shock when you achieve your expectations. You know you can do it but when you do it's a great feeling." Wise words indeed.

Close friends and family provide the motivating force and the drive to this young sportsman. James would have loved to have had not just his parents with him at the games, but also his best 'mate' so he could have shared the experience. He has a real life sporting hero in Raymond Debevec, the world record holder 50m rifle 3 positions.

Post the Youth Games, James plans to continue training hard for the Commonwealth Games in Delhi in 2010. See in you in Delhi James!
