Another day of no major upsets at the US Open as the seeds continued to completely dominate the draw. Novak Djokovic and Nikolai Davydenko the two highest men's seeds in action today, raced through their matches comfortably to post straight sets wins and advance to round 2. Djokovic beat French veteran Arnaud Clement 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 while
Davydenko made quick work of Dudi Sela of Israel 6-3, 6-3, 6-3.

No.8 seed Andy Roddick overpowered another French stalwart Fabrice Santoro 6-2, 6-2, 6-2 to also book a place in Round 2.

He struggled throu gh his match a bit and dropped the first set to Santiago Ventura, but came back strongly to win 6-7, 6-4, 6-2, 6-3. The young Frenchman's game is ideally suited to this surface and if he is able to shake off some obvious rustiness he could really trouble the top seeds.

In the Women's draw 2nd seed Jelena Jankovic nearly became the first major casualty of the tournament; as she narrowly hung on to beat unheralded Swede Sofia Arvidsson 6-3, 6-7, 7-5 in a 2nd round match that really went the distance. The match wasn't a really pretty sight as the two players made over a 100 unforced errors between them and it was more a case who's not going to throw it away than some tremendous tennis.

Posting slightly easier wins were former champions Svetlana Kuznetsova and Lindsay Davenport and Olympic champion Elena Dementieva who looked in devastating form, beating French girl Pauline Parmentier 6-2, 6-1.

Joining them in the round of 32 were another bunch of seeds including Marion Bartoli, Patty Schnyder, Caroline Wozniacki, Katarina Srebotnik and Victoria Azarenka.

Chinese girls Jie Zheng and Na Li also joined them in Round 3.

An exciting day 4 lineup includes Rafa Nadal, the Williams sisters, James Blake and Ana Ivanovic plus the start of the doubles events.
